Letter To THS Parents
Dear THS Parents,
In 2004 we started a Timberline High School Athletic Booster Club. The mission of the THS Athletic Booster Club is to support, encourage, and advance the athletic programs of Timberline High School through fundraising, community building, and team work. Being one of the smallest 5A schools in the State of Idaho we believe that we need to be doing everything we can to stay competitive with the rest of the State. In the past we have been very fragmented. Each sport program has worked independently. Parents from some programs never get the opportunity to meet parents from other programs. The coaching staff and administration at Timberline believe this organization will give parents these opportunities.
The booster club is also an avenue that we want to use for fundraising. In the past all of our programs have been doing the nickel and dime fundraising where people in our community are being hit up for money many times. Over the years we have gotten many complaints about this, but fundraising is necessary for us to offer the quality programs that we do. Over time we hope that the booster club will meet many of the financial needs of the sports programs at Timberline and in return eliminate much of the repetitive fundraising that our programs must do. This won't happen this year, but it is a goal that we have in the upcoming years. It is going to take some time to build up the finances in order to be able to do that. The Booster Club is using the Boise Education Foundation as the central receiving place for all donations. Money raised by the booster club will go toward the following types of things:
-
Meeting some of the supplemental needs of each athletic program offered at Timberline.
-
Improving Timberline athletic facilities
-
Providing activities for students surrounding athletics.
-
Promoting games throughout the year.
-
Connecting Alumni back to Timberline.
-
Fostering School Spirit.
-
Other related items
The Booster Club is also going to be a vehicle that will help our coaches connect more with our student athletes at Timberline. We have created a student committee within the Booster Club that is focused on problem solving with the student athletes. We have two head coaches that head up this committee and they recruit leaders from each of the athletic programs to be part of the committee. They will be discussing issues such as drugs and alcohol and school spirit. Last year we hand multiple alcohol violations that impacted many of our athletic programs. We believe the student committee will be an avenue to be proactive in addressing some of those issues.
All of us here at Timberline are excited about this organization. We believe it is going to be a great addition to what we already do and it is going to be a positive experience for all involved. If you have questions with regards to the Booster Club you my contact the Principal, Rich Webb, or myself. We look forward to your support this year and I want to thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Tol Gropp
